Spring tour 2018

Everyone ate well. Otherwise, the Kaiser weather on the weekend 21./22. April 2018 do not explain. In bright sunshine, the participants of the JDOST spring trip gather at the private hotel 'Das-Schmidt' in Mörbisch. Breakfast on the sun terrace, important information for the tour of the organizers Wolfgang and Marion and at half past nine we go. Before the hum of the engines displaces the silence, a group photo is taken. Approximately 20 automotive delicacies claw the tire profiles like Jaguar claws (a coincidence) into the asphalt. XJ-S, S-Type, Mk II, XJ, 420, XK and X-Type garnished by Austin, Benz and Jeep set off.

First Hoppala after about 11 km - well because that, turn right 'in the road book so cries RED (the excuse is not soooo bad). At Mattersburg, the beastly smell of liquid manure displaces the British smell of gas in our Englishmen - yes, now we are really 'ashore'. At Weppersdorf, Gerhard and Hermine take a short break with their E-Type. No, no glitch! Karl the rag collector can continue calmly. The first stage destination is located in Bad Tatzmannsdorf in the district of Oberwart. The excellent lunch buffet in the Arkadenheurigen of the 'Reduce Hotel Vital' makes the palate rejoice and pass the time until the guided tour in the open-air museum. In the open-air museum Bad Tatzmannsdorf, buildings were no longer needed as a result of changes in life and economy in southern Burgenland were therefore threatened with decay or demolition at the original site, preserved for posterity. The museum shows residential and farm buildings from the end of the 18th century to the beginning of the 20th century. Shortly before 14 o'clock takes the start to the next leg. Approximately 80 minutes later we reach the bakery Ertl in 700-souls place Studenzen for a snack stop. The shady areas in the garden are occupied by the JDOST group in no time - but the staff can sweat properly. The onward journey to the destination Burg Deutschlandsberg takes brisk bike - the historic walls are reached at about half past five. The last climb to the parking lot is steep - the air temperature is high. That displeases the 12-end XJ of Helmut and Margit so much that he gets rid of his coolant in an inappropriate manner.

Some participants use the time until the next program points and allow the motor vehicles liquid food so that they do not end up galloping the next day. Our new club member, Claus Heiß, joins the evening event at the castle with his Daimler V8 250 Cj.1968. We are very happy that he took the long journey from Carinthia for it. A good hour rest is granted to us until 19 o'clock the wine tasting begins. In the cellar vault, a lot of fermented vine juices are tastefully tasted and tasted until everyone has chosen their favorites. It goes on seamlessly with the dinner at 20 o'clock. Chef Karl Christian Kollmann and his team conjure up extraordinary culinary delights, combining well the international and Austrian cuisine. Wolfgang, thankful to the wine tasting, thanks the participants for the wonderful first day of the successful trip.

Sunday welcomes us with bright sunshine for breakfast on the terrace of the castle-restaurant. Coffees, teas, cereals, sausage, cheese and cakes are given to the hungry mouths while the dog of Mayor's wife Wallner stirs up the JDOST dog noodle. After hotel checkout, interested people meet at the entrance to the castle museum Archeo Norico Deutschlandsberg to an extremely interesting tour. Relics from Celtic battlefields are among the rare archaeological exhibits. Historical blank and firearms were on display as well as antique gold, silver and bronze jewelery. The greatest pride of the museum is a bust of the Roman Emperor Caracalla from 215 AD. with a value from which one could acquire some Jaguars. Finally, we were granted a view from the observation deck of the castle tower - soooo beautiful! The cats are saddled and off we go in the direction of St. Ruprecht / Raab. Beautiful country roads - fantastic weather - good mood. An excellent mix, like a freshly made 'Sex on the Beach' at Waikiki Beach in Honolulu. In this mood, the Gartenhotel Ochsenberger, awarded two Falstaff forks, welcomes us. We let ourselves be pampered with creative culinary creations created from local specialties that were harvested right on our doorstep - for example, strawberries from Bauer's Beeradies, which we had passed shortly before. After not quite voluntarily extended break - Wolfgang had to go back to the castle - we start to stage two of the day. Gloggnitz Castle is the next destination. Here again shows: Roadbook readers know more. Above all, they stay on the planned route. Others take the note to turn off towards Strallegg as a call to drive to Strallegg. Although it was not correct, the roadbook readers now know from the vivid descriptions of the wrong-handers, what you missed on winding forest roads ;-) Shortly before Gloggnitz we leave Burg Wartenstein in the truest sense left. The picturesque Gloggnitz Castle towers on a hill in the upper Schwarzatal. In the heart of the former Benedictine fortified monastery (first documented in 1094) we take the well-deserved snack.

Soon we get on our socks to the cars and on the bikes through the Steinfeld to Bad Vöslau. In Neunkirchen we scarcely miss the workshop of our sponsor Histo-Tech. Some of our vehicles get shaky knuckles and tears in the headlights - oh dear, the car doctor! NO ONE of our valiant minions needs to be left behind - that must be said! Thank you, dear Töffs! The day is coming to an end and dawning - we reach the Schlossberg vineyard of the Wertek family. In the garden in the vineyards with breathtaking views, we end the day with one and / or other glasses. Two wonderful days of a topically organized two-day trip come to an end. A very big thank you to Marion N. for top organization and Wolfgang S., who supported Marion actively and brought the pack in the lead vehicle well to their destination.

Thank you, thank you and THANKS!

Until next time!

Andi
