The Wachau Eisenstrasse Classic. A vintage car rally, which wants to be understood as a pleasure and panorama classic, took place from June 2nd to 4th, 2022. JDOST decided to sponsor this top event. Among other things, by organizing an advance vehicle, an Alpine A110 S - kindly provided by Renault Kammerhofer, Tulln and driven by Andreas Icha. JDOST was again well represented this time - four teams were on the list of participants. Schöbel/Nussgraber (Jaguar Mk II), Winkler/Winkler (Jaguar XJ6 Series II), Kurzreiter/Kurzreiter (Triumph TR4) and Wimpissinger/Wimpissinger (MGB GT).
On day 1, after the drivers' briefing at 3 p.m., there was a prologue over 71 km, which led the 22 participant teams from the relaxation resort Kothmühle near Neuhofen/Ybbs through the beautiful Mostviertel. After the last special timing test - the Putzmühl round - there was a well-deserved conclusion with must and a cold buffet in the Gasthaus Putzmühle.
On the second day - start at 8 a.m. again at the Relax Resort Kothmühle. Via Ybbs and Marbach it goes into the Waldviertel to Rappoltenreith and Edelsreith. Before we reach the Danube we pass Maria Taferln and Leiben. We cross Weißenkirchen and Spitz on the way to Dürnstein at the end of the first stage at the Wachau domain. The second stage takes us into the Wachau hinterland and lets us throw a tremendous view over Krems and the Danube over the Kremser Kreuzberg. At Mautern we reach the south bank of the Danube again, which we plow through to Melk. Back to the other side and at the stage destination in Emmersdorf there is a tasty lunch - but before that there is a special timing test. After the start, the third stage via Pöchlarn back to the Moststraße with the impressive panoramic roads, crowned by the unique view from the terrace at the Gasthaus Alpenblick in Kollmitzberg. Stage four takes the participating teams back to the base of the rally, the relaxation resort Kothmühle. Almost 270 km of full concentration - everyone deserves a cheap dinner. The JDOST teams gathered at a large table and had a lot of fun - it's nice when a successful rally day can end like this.
According to the road book, the third day requires almost 200 km. Narrow ribbons of asphalt that cover the Mostviertel like a net offer a variety of opportunities to miss a turn if you are not paying attention. In Gresten, the rally teams faced a special timing test at the Welser company - maximum concentration was required. The route follows the Eisenstraße via Lunz am See and Göstling. Lunch was served at Gasthaus Ott, the Mostviertlerwirt in Seitenstetten. The next special timing test follows right after the start. Via Waidhofen/Ybbs via the delightfully situated St. Leonhard am Walde, the end of the Wachau Eisenstraße Classic follows at the relaxation resort Kothmühle.
After about 550 km of rallying, a wonderful classic car event ends, in which the JDOST teams did extremely well. In addition to the splendid route and the royal weather, the teams were delighted with the bravura results.
The Schöbel/Nussgraber team achieved an excellent fourth place in the overall ranking and won the JDOST ranking - BRAVOOO!!! The Winkler/Winkler team achieved seventh place overall and second place in the JDOST ranking. The Wimpissinger/Wimpissinger team bravely fought their way into ninth and third place in the club ranking, closely followed by the Kurzreiter/Kurzreiter team in overall rank 10 and a very good fourth place in the JDOST ranking. Congratulations to the JDOST teams, who were able to prevail against the strong competitors.
At the following gala evening on Saturday, there were regional delicacies and the award ceremony for the successful participants.
