Club trip as part of the 2022 Classic Car Days

As part of the ÖMVV Oldtimertage 2022, 18 teams with around 35 participants who want to move and display their mobile gems will meet on Saturday, April 23rd, 2022.

Meeting point at 8 AM. at "Castle Wilhelminenberg" in the 16th district of Vienna - at this nocturnal time you might drive dogs around, but not sensitive British treasures. People get up early and listen intently to Heinz Winkler’s explanations of the key points of the excursion. Wolfgang Schöbel greets the pack with oily greetings in an extremely majestic manner.

“The start is at exactly 9 AM.!” said head organizer Heinz at 8:58 AM. – the crowd politely suppressed the laughter. Michael and Brigitte B. don't feel like laughing - the XJ-R lets water unmotivated and the ride is over for them before it begins. Let's go in the direction of Brunn/Wald to the "Gasthaus Schindler". The route leads over the Exelberg to Tulln - the city of roundabouts and trade fairs. This time 'HausBau + EnergieSparen' - interesting anyway but not for us. We just want to get out of town quickly. The Wagram is calling and a short time later the up to 40 meter high terrain step from the ice-age loess at the height of Gaisruck is scaled.

The entourage meanders through the Kamptal on winding asphalt strips. Past the mighty ratites of the ostrich country near Schönberg/Kamp. Not far from Gföhl, after a good 100 km of road-running, we reach the first stage destination - the Schindler Inn with the uniquely cheerful caricature garden. Object art made of stone, wood, ceramics and iron delights the public. The cool, damp weather accelerates the urge to warm up in the dining room for a worthwhile lunch. At the parking lot, children and their producers enjoy steel jaguars. The favourite: the wine-red E-Type Coupé by George & Ingrid B. The first and most important question from the young swan's mouth: "How much does it cost?" followed by "And how fast is it?" - also not insignificant.

After extensive refreshments and chatting, the starting shot is fired for the second, approx. 85 km wide stage. It takes us via Senftenberg to Krems, where we use the 374 meter long, listed Mauterner Bridge to get to the south bank of the Danube. On the Wachaustraße we roar a good 20 km along the Danube until we drop anchor at Aggsbach-Dorf, circle the Aggstein castle ruins and enter the Dunkelsteiner forest. Beautiful, small-cell running under the wheels, we are approaching the penultimate station of the day, the vintage car workshop of our sponsor Bernhard Gugrel in Traismauer.

The boss himself gives us insights into the practice of vintage cars, is available to answer our questions and is not stingy with tips and tricks. The captivating view of gleaming scrap metal whets your appetite for petrol-soaked technical gimmicks. The venerable walls of the area allowed one or the other film-ready motif to come to light between the factory office and the light show. A Ford Cortina 1600 Deluxe in antique rust white meanwhile rests quietly toward the approaching end.

The last three kilometers from the workshop to the Danube restaurant were also quickly cycled down. The vintage car day passed far too quickly, during which we covered enough meters, the weather gods were kind to us and we were able to inhale many impressions. Many thanks to Maria & Heinz Winkler for the usual perfect organization and selective route selection.

Stay on the road see you next itme,

your Andi.
