Autumn Tour 2017

At the last tour of the year we meet 10 km north of Vienna in Wolkersdorf, the gateway to the beautiful Weinviertel in the Hotel Klaus. Strengthened by a copious breakfast buffet, and motivated by warming sunbaths at the hotel car park, we start our journey further north to the deep wine district. Over lonely roads in gentle hillsides, passing by so many windmills, our convoy meandered towards the first goal: Herrnbaumgarten, past Poysdorf near the Czech border.

"The Crazy Village" or the very international Master`s Tree Garden, is the name of this community, which takes the view of the world from a slightly oblique angle. We then dedicate ourselves to the heart of the crazy village, the Nonseum operated by the Association for the exploitation of thought surpluses - a museum with a great deal of love and meticulousness, in which 487.3 boundaries are made, needs. There we also learn of a 24-hour vine-snacks race, held a few years ago, and keep their eyes open on the way to lunch, so as not to crush any of the coveted, freely circulating numbered Winnersnails crawling from their holes over the pavement to clean their houses in the beginning rain.

Finally food! The Heurigen buffet at one of the creative minds behind the Nonseum, Friedl Umschaid, tastes excellent; the three-dimensional tablecloth (use 6x and only wash once) remains hidden to us however. For all those who are interested, there is also a small tour through the kilometre-long cellar labyrinth which has been cave-out for a long time.

The second stage leads us westwards through the beautiful, now quite wet landscape. But we are talking about it, the rain is part of it, because from where do the coveted grapes come from? Arrived at the Castle Mailberg, we spoil ourselves with a hot or cold drink in the castle restaurant depending on the taste, and who likes, even with a few sweet calories, because until the well-earned dinner it still takes a bit.

Let's go to the last round, or rather, to the last daily stage, 75 km long. Via the Mailberg, through small villages to Stammersdorf to the resident Mainprostamt. As the name implies, a former post office has been transformed into a place to stamp instead of letters and pack packets, to steal steaks and burgers into regional wines. So we let the evening out and the glasses sound at a nice gathering

But before the calorie intake starts, Wolfgang speaks his final words of thanks and Eva presents the advice game announced at the beginning. What is needed is the number of picture blocks that lined the roadside of the route. The estimates are between 7 and 133 mini-buildings, the truth lying far from the middle - 33 pieces! And the winner is ...  M. Brockmann. He scrambles with 37 objects just hair-sharp.

Thanks a lot, Andi and Eva, for organizing the very nice and a bit crazy ride!
