17. Internat. Classic Exhibition - Classic Expo Salzburg

This year it is worth visiting all the more Corona or not Corona. In 2021 we will celebrate 60 years of the jaguar icon par excellence. At the Classic Expo Salzburg 15-17th Oct. there will be a special exhibition on the occasion of this anniversary. The Jaguar E-Type is a design icon and is as sensational today as it was 60 years ago when it was presented.

At the end of the 1950s, Jaguar in Coventry was already thinking about the successor to the XK models. A first test model "E1A" based on the famous and extremely successful D-Type models was ready to drive as early as 1958. The aerodynamicist and aeronautical engineer Malcom Sayer developed the Jaguar E-Type together with William Heynes and Abbey Panels. On March 15th, 1961, the new car was presented at the Geneva Motor Show. Jaguar planned the presentation in front of invited guests and PR manager Bob Berry drove to Geneva the night before in the coupé intended for it, with the registration number 9600HP. The rush was so great that Jaguar Boss, Sir William Lyons, sent his test driver Norman Dewis off with his roadster with the registration number 77RW. Dewis also arrived on time, having covered the 1200km in just 11 hours. The Jaguar E-Type was the sensation, with the 3.8 liter six-cylinder in-line engine with 269HP it reached 240 km/h and accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 7 seconds. Values that Italians only reached twice as expensive 60 years ago. More than 70,000 of all models and engine variants had been built by the end of production. The rest is HISTORY!
