Club visit Classic Expo 2021

Last weekend, the Salzburg Exhibition Center once again acted as a time portal with the Classic Expo. Countless old-timers created a nostalgic flair in the exhibition halls and invited visitors to take a trip into the past from October 15th to 17th.

Reason enough for JDOST to take a close look at the hustle and bustle. Early in the morning, when no rooster could foresee the day, Wolfgang and I set out on the long journey to Salzburg. The 3 Gs were queried in front of the entrance - everything was very calm and disciplined, as befits decent classic car enthusiasts.

Around 20,000 visitors followed the fair's call to celebrate the world's rustiest hobby together and to exchange ideas with like-minded people. Among them were some of our club members who also met at the exhibition center.

In addition to the many dealer and private vehicles, visitors were also able to be inspired by two special shows. At 75 years of Vespa, the two-wheeled Italian cult vehicle was the focus, while 60 years of the Jaguar E-Type paid homage to the fast design icon from the sixties.

We were particularly interested in the Jaguar models on display - this time there was a whole bunch of interesting specimens. A special rarity was the conversion of an XJ C12 Coupès into a four-seater convertible by the Avon-Sevens of Warwick factory. A one-off for a car show in the 1970s. An XJ12 Series II in a very nice, original condition with a light patina was also looking for a new owner. A very rare Jaguar Mk I was offered by a dealer - very nice to be able to see such models live.

This year there was another Dorotheum auction. Once again, the Dorotheum can report a complete success with a sales quota of over 90%. Around 72 of the 76 classic vehicles on offer, including two tractors and two racing cars, changed hands at the auction. The star of the auction was a Lamborghini Countach LP400 S (1979), which went to an Austrian bidder for € 460,000. The Jaguar faction was represented with an XJ-S convertible, two E-Types and an XK 140 DHC, which changed hands for good money.

In addition to looking, speaking was not neglected. Many petrol talks and Roman Kaubek's visit to our sponsor Kaubek-Oil's booth made the time go by far too quickly.

As every year, one of the highlights was the final dinner in a cozy atmosphere at the "Reiterhof Moos" in the deep south of the state capital. Some members and friends enjoyed the wonderful food in the restaurant. After a long chat, roaring laughter and deep musing, we made our way back to Vienna at around 10 p.m. The hour of the ghosts was well behind us when we were allowed to throw ourselves into our springs, exhausted and satisfied after a long day.

We are already looking forward to the "Classic Expo" next year. Save the date: October 14-16, 2022 (club trip expected on Saturday, October 15, 2022).

Best regards
