On the morning of Thursday, 26 June 2025, the JDOST held a project day at the HTL Wr. Neustadt as part of the ÖMVV youth development project StarterMotor to introduce young people to the historic cultural asset of classic cars. Around 40 pupils from the 3rd and 4th grades of mechanical engineering, 4 teachers and the head of the department, DI Horst Eisinger, took part. Wolfgang S. presented the project and explained informative general and technical details about classic cars to the participants. His presentation with practical examples, two carburettors to touch and interesting details from the ÖMVV study on classic cars, e.g. the very good acceptance of classic cars in the population, aroused the interest of the students, so that a lively process and a lively discussion took place. Then it was time for the cars. The following club vehicles were on site: XK 150, Mark 2, Xj 6, XJS V12 Cabrio

JDOST members explained the types, technology, operation, special features of the vehicles, history, model development and much more to the prospective mechanical engineers. They were enthusiastic, asked countless questions and inspected the vehicles inside and out.

The highlight of the project day was a ride in the Jaguar classic cars. All the pupils who were willing to take a ride were able to experience the feeling of driving a classic car close to the school and were thrilled.

The final part was a quiz with general questions about classic cars, the classic car industry and Jaguar classic cars. The students did their best. After five pupils were tied at the end, the first three places were decided by drawing lots and the winners received certificates, which they were delighted to receive.

It was a successful project day and the participating JDOST members Wolfgang S. Heinrich W., Michael B. and Werner S. felt the enthusiasm of these young people for the subject of classic cars. We can only hope that we were able to arouse their lasting interest and that they will return to the subject of classic cars at some point.

The direct, friendly contact with young, inquisitive people was a great experience for young and old alike.

The JDOST was invited by department head Eisinger to organise such a successful project day again.
