On 28 June, 33 people met in the morning at Heiligenkreuz Abbey, where we were allowed to set up our vehicles in the courtyard. After Father M. Stefan had blessed all the vehicles, the owners had to prove how well they could judge their cars by driving with the front and back of the car towards a polystyrene wall – penalty points were awarded for every centimetre of deviation or contact with the bumper.
The group then travelled through the Vienna Woods to the ‘Pechermuseum’ in Hernstein. During an interesting guided tour, we learnt all about the difficult working conditions for resin extraction in this region. The group then continued on towards Mariahilfberg, where photos had to be assigned to the correct locations during the journey. The next challenge awaited the car owners in the car park of the long-established ‘Gasthaus Moser’. Each car had to drive through a course with bathing ducks – whereby driving over each duck brought penalty points. After some of the ducks had suffered considerably, we were able to enjoy lunch in the guest garden accompanied by lots of amusing conversations.
At 3 p.m., the engines started again and the group travelled via Haselrast – where some pictures had to be matched again during the journey – via the Höllental valley, where a little refreshment was consumed in the ‘Päuschen Häuschen’ in bright sunshine.
The last stage took us to Bad Fischau, where we enjoyed dinner at the ‘Hofstadlheurigen Weinstube Goldfuß’ and then the award ceremony took place – 3rd place went to the Wawra family, 2nd place to the Pietsch family and 1st place was won by the Brown family. The last place received a jar of pickles as a small consolation prize.
We would like to thank our organising team Heinrich and Maria Winkler for organising this varied outing!
