A successful club evening offering fascinating insights into the world of classic car insurance
On 15 May, the JDOST held an informative and convivial club evening. The highlight of the evening was a fascinating talk by OCC, the specialist in insurance for collector’s cars, including classic and modern classics, as well as premium cars.
First-hand expert knowledge
Bernhard Eder, Managing Director of OCC Austria, hosted the evening, providing participants with comprehensive insights into the world of classic car insurance. Alongside his personal passion for classic cars – particularly the Alfa Romeo GT 1600 Junior – he shared in-depth expertise drawn from OCC’s 40-plus years of experience in the classic car scene.
Why specialist insurance is crucial
A key theme of the evening was the importance of bespoke insurance solutions for historic vehicles. According to studies, many classic cars are covered only by third-party liability insurance – specialist classic car insurance, on the other hand, is often still little known.
OCC clearly demonstrated why individual solutions are crucial:
• Cover for the actual value of the vehicle
• Protection against underinsurance
• Value preservation and value guarantee
• Specialised claims handling
Particularly with valuable vehicles, the wrong insurance can entail considerable financial risks – as an example involving a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL impressively
demonstrated.
The classic car market in Austria
The Austrian market for classic cars was also examined:
There are around 364,000 classic cars and some 490,000 modern classics on the roads here, along with numerous clubs, rallies and events. These figures highlight the scene’s significant importance and the growing interest in historic vehicles.
Tailored solutions for classic cars
Another key focus was on the wide range of insurance options offered by OCC
– from individual vehicles to extensive collections. Particular emphasis was placed on:
• Tailored pricing based on usage
• Insurance for vehicles in different categories (classic cars, modern classics, premium cars)
Networking and exchange
In addition to the technical content, the club evening also offered ample opportunity for personal exchange amongst like-minded individuals. In a relaxed atmosphere,
experiences were shared, questions asked and contacts nurtured.
Conclusion
The club evening was a resounding success and offered participants valuable insights into an often underestimated topic. It became clear that the right insurance is a crucial factor in safeguarding the value and appeal of classic cars in the long term.
